Function

The role – What does it involve?

For their Compliance Function department, a key control function within D.A.S., they are looking for a Head of Compliance. In this role, you ensure compliance with all legal and internal requirements. You are part of the management team and play a strategic role in safeguarding the organisation’s integrity. You ensure that processes and employees comply with insurance regulations, including FSMA circular 2012/21 and the Solvency II directive.

You report directly to the Chief Risk Officer (CRO), the Executive Committee, the Audit & Risk Committee, the shareholders (ERGO Group & Munich RE Group), and the supervisory authorities. You act independently and are solely responsible for approving compliance reports and recommendations.

Responsibilities:

Structure and Organisation

  •  Develop and improve the governance framework of the compliance function, in collaboration with other control functions.
  •  Ensure that the compliance function has sufficient resources and support to carry out its responsibilities effectively.

Annual Compliance Cycle

  •  Conduct a yearly compliance risk assessment and establish a corresponding action and monitoring plan.
  •  Ensure proper follow-up and implementation of the plan across the organisation.

Reporting and Monitoring

  •  Prepare and deliver reports to the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, Audit & Risk Committee, and supervisory authorities.
  •  Monitor and follow up on incidents related to compliance, such as fraud and GDPR breaches.
  •  Ensure regular communication regarding compliance and data protection matters, both internally and externally.

Training and Contact Point

  •  Organise relevant training sessions and awareness initiatives on compliance and data protection (in collaboration with the DPO).
  •  Act as the central contact point for employees regarding compliance-related questions or concerns, including whistleblowing procedures.
  •  Maintain direct contact with the group and regulatory bodies on compliance topics.

Strategic Projects

  •  Participate in strategic projects initiated by the Executive Committee or Board of Directors, such as product reviews or significant legislative changes.

People Management

  •  Supervise the complaints officer (0.5 FTE) and the Data Protection Officer.
  •  Lead by example within the management team, especially in promoting the company’s values and behavioural standards.

Profile

Do you hold a Master’s degree in Law or another relevant university qualification, and have you gained at least three years of experience in a non-life insurance company within the past six years? Then you might be the Head of Compliance D.A.S. is looking for! Other requirements:

  • Certified Compliance Officer
  • Meets the “Fit & Proper” requirements of the National Bank of Belgium
  • Strong knowledge of relevant regulations: Solvency II, MIFID, GDPR, IDD, competition law
  • Clean criminal record, no sanctions, no involvement in compliance incidents
  • Analytical mindset, critical thinking and independence
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexible, stress-resistant and solution-oriented
  • Fluent in Dutch, French and English
  • Proud of your work and accountable for your decisions
